Private C McGill, 1078, Lancashire Fusiliers
Awarded the DCM for killing several enemy during an attack
The London Gazette on 3rd September 1918 states;
"For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When the enemy were met in forcing a communication trench, the man climbed on to, and stood on the parapet, in order to get a better target though he was under machine gun and rifle fire. Firing at the enemy, he killed several and threw them into confusion by his unexpected action, which enabled the party in the trench to rush them and capture the lot. His dauntless example was a great encouragement to the men with him."
