2nd Lieutenant 'Henry' Arnold Bailey, 8th Battalion, King's Own (Royal Lancaster Regiment)

Killed in Action on 24th March 1918, age 28

Buried at Wailly Orchard Cemetery, France

Prior to the war, Arnold worked at the controller's department at the town hall, before moving to City Hall in Cardiff. He returned back to Merthyr prior to the war, due to his father's ill health.

He then joined the Artists Rifles OTC in December 1916 and following this, he was gazetted on 25th September 1917 confirming his promotion from a cadet to 2nd Lt.

Arnold was Killed in Action on 24th March 1918, age 28 alongside 2nd Lt Arthur Hewetson, whilst directing defensive fire, following numerous German attacks to break through the British lines. This became known as the 'Repulse of the Attack near Wancourt'.
